RADIAL SHOCK WAVE THERAPY

Radial Shock Wave Therapy (RSWT) is used as a safe effective non invasive treatment of a broad range of musculoskeletal disorders supported by clinical trials evidence.
This includes conditions such as tendinopathy (achilles, hamsting, tennis elbow, patella, and gluteal) and other problems such as plantar fasciitis, calcific tendonitis, medial tibial stress syndrome and trigger point therapy.  More recent evidence supports the use of shockwave in acute muscle injury.

How it works

A radial shock wave is a pressure wave generated by an air compressor inside the machine (Gymna Shockmaster) delivered on point by a hand held device. When applied to musculoskeletal tissue, the shock waves have been shown to induce biomechanical responses that promote tissue remodelling and regeneration, reduce hypertonia and have an analgesic effect. These responses include the  release of tissue growth factors, new blood vessel formation (neovascularisation) and stem cell activation, all of which promote tissue regeneration.

Evidence suggests 4-6 treatments spaced a week apart. Effects, even in chronic cases can be immediate. Shockwave can be used alongside other treatments and can further enhance treatment results.
