MASSAGE THERAPY

Mike Manoukian is a qualified Massage Therapist (Diploma in Remedial Massage, and in Sports Massage.)

Sports Massage

Sports massage is an application of massage techniques used to enhance athletic performance.

If received regularly it may help athletes prevent injuries, which might otherwise be caused by overused muscular motion. A constant build up of tension in the muscles from regular activity may lead to stresses on joints, ligaments, tendons, as well as the muscles themselves.

It aims to increase the performance of the individual whilst reducing the incidence of injury. Sports massage encompasses pre- and post- event, during competition, training and conditioning, restoration and rehabilitation. It can enhance the flexibility of muscles, helping them to remain injury-free during performance, and to train without discomfort. Sports massage also treats sporting injuries.

Remedial Massage

Remedial massage is a comprehensive deep therapeutic massage technique, enabling manipulation of soft tissues and treatment of muscular dysfunction to a specific area of the body, such as the back, shoulders, neck and limbs.

Remedial massage techniques such as deep tissue, sports massage, trigger point therapy and PNF stretching are combined for an overall curative approach. A therapist needs knowledge of anatomy and physiology to determine where to treat each patient.
